Zorinia Design undertook the transformation of a 450 sqm private villa in the serene landscape of Aix-en-Provence, France, with a clear directive: to create an environment of 'Natural Purity'. The client sought a design that emphasized restraint, allowing the inherent beauty of materials, the play of light, and a sense of quietude to define the space. This project in Aix-en-Provence was a departure from our typical Dubai-centric work, yet aligned perfectly with our philosophy of crafting unique, client-specific interiors.

Our approach for this villa in Aix-en-Provence centered on the Modern Minimalist and Scandinavian aesthetics. We focused on simple forms, natural textures, and a deliberate curation of elements. The objective was to design interiors where each component served a purpose, leaving ample room for essential living and contemplation. The result is a serene interior where the pace of life naturally slows, inviting residents to fully experience their surroundings. This involved a meticulous selection of materials and finishes, ensuring they contributed to the overall sense of calm and understated luxury.

How does Zorinia Design integrate natural light into minimalist designs?

Integrating natural light is paramount in our Modern Minimalist and Scandinavian projects, especially in a location like Aix-en-Provence, known for its abundant sunshine. We strategically use large, unobstructed windows and open-plan layouts to maximize daylight penetration. Reflective surfaces in a matte finish, such as limewash walls and light-toned wood floors, help diffuse light throughout the space. We also carefully consider window treatments, opting for sheer linen or discreet roller blinds that can be fully retracted to maintain an uninterrupted connection with the outdoors, enhancing the villa's natural purity.

For the main living areas, including the expansive open-plan living room and dining space, we specified wide-plank, bleached oak flooring that extends seamlessly, creating visual continuity. Walls were finished with a subtly textured limewash in a warm off-white, providing a soft, tactile backdrop that reacts beautifully to the shifting Provençal light. Custom-designed, built-in shelving units, crafted from solid ash wood, offer discreet storage while maintaining the minimalist aesthetic. These units are integrated into the architecture, ensuring no visual clutter disrupts the sense of calm. The furniture selection prioritized comfort and understated elegance, with pieces featuring clean lines and natural upholstery materials like linen and wool.

In the kitchen, the 'Natural Purity' brief translated into a design that was both highly functional and aesthetically serene. We opted for handleless cabinetry in a light grey matte lacquer, paired with a honed Carrara marble countertop and backsplash. A large, minimalist island serves as the central hub, designed for both preparation and casual dining. Integrated appliances further contribute to the streamlined look, ensuring that the focus remains on the quality of materials and the spaciousness of the room. The challenge of creating a premium, factory-direct solution for a European market was met by leveraging our established network of artisan manufacturers who could deliver the precise quality and finish required.
