Scope of Work
The Challenge
The primary challenge was transforming a compact 75 sqm 1-bedroom apartment into a spacious and highly functional home, maximizing storage and livability while incorporating distinct contemporary, minimalist, and Mediterranean design elements.
Our Solution
We implemented a design strategy utilizing custom multi-functional furniture, extensive wall-mounted storage, and strategic mirror placement to visually expand space. A cohesive light color palette and integrated lighting enhanced the open feel, successfully blending diverse aesthetic preferences within the limited footprint.
Project Story
Designing a small apartment interior in Dubai presents a unique opportunity to blend functionality with refined aesthetics. For this 75-square-meter 1-bedroom unit in Burj Vista Tower 1, Downtown Dubai, our client sought a contemporary and minimalist approach, enhanced with warm Mediterranean touches. The primary goal was to maximize perceived space and utility, delivering a sophisticated yet highly livable environment that celebrated its iconic Burj Khalifa views. We focused on highly efficient layouts, custom-designed multi-functional furniture, and a material palette that evoked both modern luxury and the serene calm of a coastal retreat.
Our approach to this Downtown Dubai apartment renovation began with a comprehensive spatial analysis. Given the compact footprint of the 1-bedroom layout, every square meter was considered for its potential to serve multiple purposes. We integrated wall-mounted storage solutions extensively, from sleek media consoles to discreet shelving units, ensuring that essential items were readily accessible without cluttering the visual field. This strategy not only kept the living areas open and airy but also contributed to the minimalist aesthetic, aligning with the client's desire for an uncluttered home. The use of large format, light-colored porcelain tiles for flooring throughout created a seamless flow, visually expanding the space.
One of the critical elements in enhancing the sense of spaciousness was the strategic placement of mirrors. In the main living area, a large, custom-framed mirror was positioned to reflect the stunning Burj Khalifa vista, effectively doubling the impact of the city's iconic skyline and bringing more natural light into the deeper parts of the apartment. This technique, coupled with a restrained color palette of muted whites, soft greys, and natural wood tones, contributed significantly to the open, expansive feel of the home. The subtle Mediterranean influence was introduced through textural elements like linen upholstery, woven accents, and a select few terracotta-hued decorative pieces.
What are the benefits of custom joinery for small apartments in Dubai?
Custom joinery is indispensable for optimizing space in small apartments. Unlike off-the-shelf furniture, bespoke cabinetry and built-ins are designed to fit exact dimensions, maximizing storage capacity in often-overlooked areas. This allows for seamless integration of amenities, creates clean lines, and eliminates dead spaces, transforming challenging layouts into highly functional and aesthetically pleasing environments. For our Burj Vista project, a custom media unit and built-in wardrobe were crucial for maintaining a minimalist aesthetic while providing ample storage.
The kitchen, though compact, was designed as a highly functional zone. We opted for a sleek, handleless cabinetry design in a matte white finish, complemented by a light grey quartz countertop. Integrated appliances were essential to maintain the clean lines and minimalist aesthetic. A custom-designed breakfast bar extends from the main countertop, serving as both an informal dining area and an additional workspace, further illustrating our commitment to multi-functional design. The backsplash featured subtle, textured tiles that introduced a hint of Mediterranean character without overwhelming the contemporary scheme.
Illumination played a pivotal role in creating the desired ambiance. We layered lighting, combining recessed ceiling lights for general illumination with discreet LED strips under shelving and within joinery for accent lighting. A statement pendant light above the breakfast bar added a touch of elegance and warmth, defining the dining zone. Natural light was maximized through sheer curtains that allowed views to remain unobstructed while providing privacy. This thoughtful lighting scheme ensured that the apartment felt inviting and well-lit at any time of day, enhancing the overall living experience.
The bedroom continued the theme of understated luxury and efficiency. A custom-designed bed frame incorporated hidden storage, addressing the perennial challenge of storage in smaller units. The wall behind the bed was subtly textured, offering a soft focal point, while bedside tables were integrated into the headboard design to save floor space. The ensuite bathroom featured a floating vanity and a walk-in shower with clear glass partitioning, maintaining the open and airy feel. By carefully selecting each element, we ensured that this modern apartment interior furnishing in Dubai delivered both comfort and style, perfectly tailored to the client's lifestyle.
